Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Faith in Khamsah of Nawaei

Abstract

The development process of the History of Islamic Thought shows that the subject of faith has taken an important place in the social and cultural life of the Muslim community and that it has been very influential in the formation of their culture, art, poetry, literature and moral understanding. This has a close relationship with the fact that faith is at the center of religion and that Muslim life is shaped around it. For this reason, it is seen that faith issues are processed with in various literary genres in Turkish-Islamic literature, just as they are in the literature of other Muslim nations. While some poets content with a brief reference to this subject, others have examined faith in detail in their poems as a fundamental problem. One of the poets who entered this second part is Ali Sheer Navaiy. He gives satisfactory information about the nature and principles of faith under the title “Commentary of faith” in Hayratu’l-Abrar, the first mesnevi of his work Hamse. However, what makes him different is that it emphasizes the relationship between faith-deeds/morality-life by highlighting the fact of faith/practice while addressing the theoretical dimension of the subject.
