Introduction and Evaluation of Persian Sunni Hadith Literature (Based on the Examples of Musaffâ Şerh-i Muvatta and Teysîru’l-Kârî Şerh-i Sahihi’l-Buhârî)

Abstract

This study introduces and evaluates two key works of Persian hadith literature: Musaffâ Şerh-i Muvatta and Teysîru'l-Kârî Şerh-i Sahîh al-Bukhârî. Regarding scope and depth, Persian religious sciences literature is comparable to Arabic literature and offers even more incredible richness in some areas. The study aims to highlight the significance of this literature and create awareness within Turkish academic circles. Additionally, it emphasizes that Persian hadith studies are not limited to Shiite sources; noteworthy Sunni hadith literature also exists. The analysis encompasses not only manuscripts but also other related sources. Shah Waliullah al-Dehlawi, to reduce the negative effects of disputes among different sects in India, undertook the responsibility of interpreting Muwatta in Persian, adding Persian translations of verses and hadiths to the work. Dehlawi condensed the original Muwatta, which consisted of 60 books, into 11 books and divided it into 1,160 topics, describing his work as a source encompassing the four Sunni schools of thought. The second work examined in the study, Teysîru'l-Kârî, was written by Sheikh Nurul Haq upon his father's encouragement. This work focuses on essential and beneficial topics intended to meet the religious needs of Persian-speaking communities. Today, Some Sunni communities use Persian as an educational language.; however, this literature is not well-known in Turkish academic circles. Therefore, the article holds the potential to contribute to the literature on Islamic sciences.
